A SINGING HEART

Image
A SINGING HEART Ephesians 5:10-20 Devotional:- “speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,” (v.19) NKJV Singing always, to some people, is equal to madness. Some believe that if you see a man who has never had a time of sorrow, then he is not a man. According to them, life must have ups and downs. But do you know that God want to simply make your days full of joy and void of sorrow. That is why Christ came to carry our sorrows away. If He has come to carry our sorrow away, then it is wrong to expect yourself to still be living in what is no more available (Isaiah 53:4). What the bible is teaching us today is contrary to what men will teach. God’s word wants us to always sing and be joyful. That is why God’s word says; rejoice in the Lord always and not sometimes (Philippians 4:4). Listen to this, if you want to be joyful and void of sorrow for the rest of your life, you need to pray it into your life. Sing...

CELEBRATION

Image
CELEBRATION 2 Chronicles 30:21-27 Devotional:- “So there was great joy in Jerusalem, for since the time of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel, there had been nothing like this in Jerusalem” (v.26) NKJV When we make ourselves available for the service of the Lord, we plug our lives into joy. This is because we are actually created to serve the Lord (Revelation 4:11). And when anyone finds himself doing what he is created to do, he finds fulfilment. The children of Israel in the time of Hezekiah, the king, gathered together to celebrate the feast of Passover. This was one of the feasts God commanded. This celebration is an opportunity to serve the Lord. They came together to yield in obedience to God’s instruction, and this produced great joy among them. Some cooking, some cleaning and others involved in other things just to make the feast successful. See, you need to know that you are not just created to go to school, work, earn, build a house, buy cars, have a wife, childre...

HIS COMMANDMENTS

Image
HIS COMMANDMENTS Malachi 2:1-9 Devotional:- “If you will not hear, And if you will not take it to heart, To give glory to My name," Says the LORD of hosts, "I will send a curse upon you, And I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have cursed them already, Because you do not take it to heart.” (v.2) NKJV If anyone will live continuously in a glorious and joyful life in this world, he must learn to obey this command. It is the only way to bring you to the level of right thinking for the right result. Ingratitude is a product of an irresponsible mind that is always expecting God to do everything for it. This is simply a religious mind. It is a refusal to show appreciation for those things God is doing in one’s life. It is complaining about what is yet to be in place in one's life. Such a person takes offence at God. He is embittered with the people who are making it around. In today’s scripture, not being grateful always attracts curses. God pronounces curses upon some priest...

PURSUE PEACE

Image
PURSUE PEACE Hebrews 12:12-17 Devotional:- “Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:” (v.14) NKJV Some people don’t know that a peaceful relationship is in their best interest. They do not know that it is ignorance to be wicked and be in conflict with others. Little do most people know that a peaceful relationship is basically good for their health and well-being. That is why a peaceful man will live long in health. God’s word teaches us today to strive to attain peace in all our relationships with others. The Bible doesn’t say we should try to do that, but it says we should strive. This is because it may not be easy. Man, as a social and emotional being, cannot help but relate with others. We often finds constraints in doing so because of our differences, which can lead us to offend one another; we often find it tough with some people. Notwithstanding that, the Bible commands us to pursue peace with everyone so that we don’t block our access ...

SERVING WITH JOY

Image
SERVING WITH JOY Deuteronomy 28:47-52 Devotional:- “Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joy and gladness of heart, for the abundance of everything” (V.47) NKJV A greater percentage of people do not know what stops their glory. They just suddenly discover that things just stop working out for them. In their ignorance, they accuse God and the devil for their predicament. You need to know from now that one of the things responsible is when people don’t serve with joy. People are always in haste to expect reward for their service. When it looks delayed, they begin to serve with grudges in their mind. God told the Israelites that if they did not serve God with a joyful heart, they would serve their enemy. This is actually too grievous, but men are also not always understanding. Something in us always looks so high that we don’t see what the Lord is doing, but we will always see what he has not done. This makes it difficult to serve with joy. Many are wounded by their delayed ex...

LIGHTEN YOUR BURDEN

Image
LIGHTEN YOUR BURDEN I Peter 5:6-11 Devotional:- “casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you” (v.7) NKJV Until a man truly learns the act of offloading the garbage of his life experience, he cannot experience the true life of joy. The truth is that joy and worry cannot co-exist. When the heart of a man is heavy, he cannot pretend to be happy. That is why he will need to lighten up always. In our scripture today, the Bible teaches us about casting our cares upon God. Our cares are things that burden our mind, which strongly hold our hearts with sorrow. These are in most cases, the challenges that we face. The way of escape the Lord has made for us from such a trap is to cast our cares on Him. This is simply by believing in His care for us and by the same faith committing those challenges to Him in prayer. After which, by faith also we receive our liberty for joy. Be aware that needs will always come to create burdens on us. That is why you must let the system of joy flow ...

LIVING IN PURPOSE

Image
LIVING IN PURPOSE Proverbs 19:20-29 Devotional:- “Many plans are in a man's mind, but it is the Lord's purpose for him that will stand” (v.21) AMPC. Our God is a God of purpose. He does all things for a purpose, and He will do nothing for nothing. Everything we see in this world has a reason for existence; even the ant and the mosquito have a reason for their existence. If there is no purpose for them, they will not be created. The beauty is that everything will enter into their season of joy when they locate their purpose and stay in it. It is important that you come to know that you are created for a purpose. You also need to know that it is only in fulfilment of your purpose that you can experience great joy. It is as sweet as when a nut finds the right screw and they just fit perfectly. It is as if a door finds the right key and it opens easily. Also, life can be smooth and become interesting when you locate your purpose and walk in it. Please understand that God’s purpos...

SPIRIT OF JOY

Image
SPIRIT OF JOY Galatians 5:16-26 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness” (v.22) NKJV For all men to experience an ever-flowing joy, we must first possess the spirit of joy. God is the source of joy. When He is in a man, He brings His joy along (Psalm 16:11). Since God is a Spirit, He can only be with men by dwelling in them. When the spirit of God dwells in a man, he will experience unlimited joy. One of the most neglected exercises in the church is people receiving the Holy Spirit. Most Christians look for one excuse or the other to neglect the Holy Spirit in their life. Sometimes people feel the Holy Spirit is not that necessary. Some people feel it is an old way of following the Lord. But you need to know that if you lack the Spirit of God, God’s word says that you are none of His own (Romans 8:9). Friend, it will be wisdom for you to set aside time to ask and be filled with the Spirit of Christ. When you are filled wit...

PRESENCE OF GOD

Image
PRESENCE OF GOD  Psalm 16:5-11 Devotional:- “You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore” (v.11) NKJV As good as joy is, one of the greatest tasks of joy is sustaining it. So the world always finds it difficult to sustain. Many cannot even experience it for more than two hours per week. This is because they have not located the source of joy. As a believer, you need to know that joy is a product of the presence of God. Wherever God’s presence is, our scripture today says joy will fill the place. It means the oxygen and the hydrogen of the atmosphere of God are joy. So you cannot be in His presence and not know joy. No wonder David said he is always glad when it is time to go to the house of the Lord. (Psalm 122:1). To experience the presence of the Lord, you need to be filled with the Holy Spirit, and then His presence will be within you. You also need to believe that He is with you according to His word. See ...

SELF ENCOURAGEMENT

Image
SELF ENCOURAGEMENT Luke 15:11-24 Devotional:- “I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you,” (v.18) NKJV So many people in the world today are groaning in sorrow under the pressure of challenges of life because they lack the wisdom of self-encouragement. The truth you have to accept is that there are not many people to encourage you in this world. More people and situations will discourage you. It is important that you know that joy is the fuel of your courage to achieve in life. So, you must learn to encourage yourself. If the prodigal son does not encourage himself, he will simply die in his sorrow. It is true he committed an error, yet he refused to be a victim of his error. He refused to die for his mistake. Do you know that failure is refusing to rise from falling? After all, we have seen babies who fall into gutters, yet their mother will pick them up, clean them, and they are still good babies. Friend, if you...

OBEDIENCE

Image
OBEDIENCE Acts 13:42-52 Devotional:- “And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.” (v.52) NKJV A great instrument that can sustain joy in the life of God’s children is obedience. When a man disobey God, the enemy just strategically makes him lose his right decision. The devil has just made him follow a wrong path and shunned his part in God’s help and provision. So he cannot help but experience sorrow and regret at last. Many don’t just know why they have sorrow. They do not know that they are created by God for God (Isaiah 43:21). So when man disobeys, it is life out of course (Psalms 82:5). The disciples were led by the Holy Spirit to send Paul and Barnabas on an assignment for God (Acts 13:1-3). But as they went on their journey for God’s assignment, they were confronted with persecution by the Jews. Yet, they had great joy. This was not the joy of success but of obedience that they were walking in the will of the Father. See, an obedient servant will alwa...

FAITHFULNESS

Image
FAITHFULNESS Matthew 25:14-30 Devotional:- “His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord'” (v.21) NKJV One other unnoticed strength of joy is being faithful. You need to know that faithfulness is a senior brother to joyfulness. They are born of the same father. When you are really born of God, these two virtues will surely be found in you. Today, many are dubious in their dealings with others. Many, in the name of the need for money, become unfaithful to their spouse, master and even God. People do this just to get wealth, but they never know that it is a way to lose their joy. So many have gathered through unfaithfulness, but with many sorrows. In the scripture we read today, there are two types of servants. Their master gave them money to trade with. Two were faithful by carrying out the instruction of their master, but one was unfaithful. He thought ...

GOOD NEWS

Image
GOOD NEWS Proverbs 25:20-28 Devotional:- “As cold water to a weary soul, So is good news from a far country.” (v.25) NKJV One of the things you must embrace to retain a life of joy is good news. These are news or information about what the Lord has done and what He is doings, e.g. news of His redemptive work, news of provision for divine healing, promotion, increase, abundant joy, breakthrough, etc. This is to hear or read testimonies of victory and success of others, and then you are drawing closer to your own testimony. It is important that you recognise one of the devices of the devil today, and this is by promoting bad news. These are news of evil, accidents, and disasters happening all over the world. It is really an advanced trick of the enemy to steal people’s joy. Bad news weakens people’s faith and confidence. It makes men believe that God cannot help them overcome evil. So, these breed fear and doubt in the human heart. If you like to be strong and live your life in joy...

HOPE

Image
HOPE Psalm 42:1-11 Devotional:- “Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God” (v.11) NKJV If any man will experience sustaining joy, he must first be hopeful. Hope is the strength of joy. Hope is the reason for the coming joy. It is an expectation according to the will of God. It is an assurance of a coming joy (Hebrews 12:2). It is also the strength of faith (Hebrews 11:1). If there is no hope, there may also not be joy, but a man of hope will continue in joy. Oftentimes, we observe the current happenings around us, and it looks like there is no hope. The truth is that current events are not the determining factor for our tomorrow. God’s word says we cannot compare the suffering of now to the glory that is coming (Romans 8:18). The truth is that no hope can be genuine till it has a sure and certain promise. This is a promise that cannot fail, and that is why our hope should be in...

JOY OF SALVATION

Image
JOY OF SALVATION Psalm 51:8-19 Devotional:- “Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit” (v.12) NKJV Many believers have not learnt to truly experience the joy of salvation. So, the enemy often pushes them to sorrow in the midst of their joy. The reason many don’t exercise this joy for their lifting is that they quickly allow their challenges to make them lose sight of the redemptive provision. They allow the wind of their challenges to take them on and on into fear and worry. They forget the joy of salvation, which is actually their strength and solution. David also experiences this deception of the devil to take him into a season of dryness and sorrow, but he quickly remembered the joy of God’s salvation. He started asking for the restoration of this joy. Friend, let me remind you that Christ died to take not only your sin but also your sorrow away (Matthew 8:17). Remember that He has redeemed you from the curse of the law and has enlisted yo...

CONTENTMENT

Image
CONTENTMENT I Timothy 6:3-12 Devotional:- “Now godliness with contentment is great gain.” (V.6) 6 NKJV For anyone to sustain the spirit of joy, he must learn to exercise godliness with contentment. One major reason why people quickly lose their joy is their fear of lack. This is a feeling of losing what they have. This is a fear of unknown or undefined unexpected problems that may occur. In the scripture we read today, God’s word explains to us about something that is of great gain to us. The word contentment means to be calm and at peace in every situation. It means not to worry but expect the best of every challenge. The godliness that the Bible talks about here is to remain in your godly virtues, no matter what is happening. This will make you find it easy to believe God for supply, and it shall be so. And in the midst of this, you will have peace and joy. Friend, if you still have a problem with letting money go, thinking of how you would get it back or getting worried about ...

MEEKNESS

Image
MEEKNESS Numbers 12:1-10 Devotional:- “(Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the earth.)” (v.3) NKJV A great virtue that will help a man sustain a life of joy is meekness. This is an act of being gentle and ready to accept instructions and corrections. This is an act of not being willing to struggle with God but to easily submit to His will. Jesus said this kind of people will inherit the earth (Matthew 5:5). This is because they will always be willing to take instruction and correction. Sometimes correction or discipline of love could be harsh or strong, but a meek person has the fortitude to bear it and rejoice at it because he knows that such will always get him better and stronger. The meek are willing to wait to receive the help of God. He is simple when it comes to accepting the will of God. To him, God is always good, which makes him ever thankful and joyful. This is the reason God cannot but give them a great portion of the earth. S...

OTHER gods

Image
OTHER gods Psalm 16:1-11 Devotional:- “Their sorrows shall be multiplied who hasten after another god; Their drink offerings of blood I will not offer, Nor take up their names on my lips.” (v.4) NKJV When people are caged in the spirit of idolatry. It will take God to deliver them. This spirit enslaves them in an endless journey of sorrow. They keep moving on in their wicked and painful sacrifices till they enter into their pit of regrets. This is because wickedness makes people seek the devil for a solution. It is either that they want spiritual aid for promotion, money, or power that they are not entitled to. Since they think that God’s way seems to be slow, they then turn to the devil for faster ways and evil results that look temporarily good. Sons of men need to know that the evil of “get it quick at all costs” is foolishness. When a man allows the pressure of life to push him to this end instead of praying and believing God for a way, such a man will open the door for multi...

SETBACK

Image
SETBACK Genesis 39:10-21 Devotional:- “Then Joseph's master took him and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were confined. And he was there in the prison” (v.20) NKJV Most people do not yet understand that what we call a setback, a lot of time is a set-up to set us to our top. Setback, as viewed by people, is demotion, but it is rather an opportunity to retreat and re-fire for greater victory. When the purpose of a thing is not known, men are bound to abuse it. Today, we read about Joseph, who was thanking God for being promoted from a slave to a house overseer. He always tried to put his best into his assignment, and by this, he always had joy. At this time, the enemy wanted to damage his testimony by the temptation of sin, but he stood his ground for God (2 Timothy 2:22). But then he faced something like a demotion to prison. This looks like an act of wickedness from God that he was trying to please, but Joseph knew that there is a price for righteo...

COMPARISM

Image
COMPARISM 2 Corinthians 10:7-18 Devotional:- “Oh, don't worry; we wouldn't dare say that we are as wonderful as these other men who tell you how important they are! But they are only comparing themselves with each other, using themselves as the standard of measurement. How ignorant!” (v.12) NLT. Man, by his complexity, sometimes creates complications for himself in life. One of the things we often do incorrectly is to measure our lives by comparing them to other people’s lives. We often forget that we are sent for a different purpose, so our goals and objectives cannot be the same. There is nothing wrong with trying to gauge your level of performance against others in the same field. But it will be completely wrong for you to determine whether you are a failure or a success by the life of another man. Paul, the apostle of Christ, knows that his own purpose and program are from the Lord and are different from what others have been given. For example, if some apostles were marr...

THE PAST

Image
THE PAST Isaiah 43:8-21 Devotional:- “Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old.” (v.18) NKJV God, who gives us a memory, want us to use our past experiences to help us make quality decisions in the future, but the past is always the enemy of the future for many. If you don’t know how to manage your memory system of the past, it is capable of standing against your success in the future. As emotional beings, we are sometimes faced with the challenges of memories of our past experiences, our errors and failures. You will observe that at every point of decision-making to progress, the enemy will bring back to your memory the past experiences of your failure. This is just to bring fear to your heart and make you doubt the possibility of your success, so you could lose your joy. The scripture we read today instructs us to let go of the past. God is starting a brand-new thing with you. He is giving you new experiences of success and breakthrough. You need to lea...

GRUMBLING

Image
GRUMBLING I Corinthians 10:1-13 Devotional:- “nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer” (v.10) NKJV The act of grumbling is a means through which the enemy carefully removes the joy of many. Grumbling is a silent reaction to an instruction or a responsibility you must undertake. It is not feeling free to express one's mind about what one is satisfied with. People grumble against God about their challenges. They also grumble against their masters or bosses in the office. When the children of Israel were going through the wilderness, they were faced with several needs on their way, and each time they tried to shift blame to God, who had mercy on them and organised to put them in Canaan. When they lack water, they grumble; when it is meat, they grumble, and God sent the angel of destruction to destroy them. It is important to note that instead of grumbling under your breath or in your workplace, you should find a way to express your mind so ...

WORRY

Image
WORRY Luke 12:22-31 Devotional:- “And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?” (v.25) NKJV Another cheap way for the enemy to steal the joy of people on the earth is by making them worry about issues of life. For many, it is difficult to separate worrying from being thoughtful. It is often said by experts that, only a small percentage of men use their brains to solve their problems, and this means the rest take up anxiety and worry. So many people on earth are victims of worry. The truth is that your life is not designed for sorrow. That is why sorrow brings pain to your system. It is alien to your nature. Worry is making a survey of your problems, magnifying your situation and bringing you to a pit of pity. This does no good to no one; it rather increases your fear and failure. It blocks your mind from thinking of a solution, but celebrates your downfall. It always disguises itself as a sincere thought about oneself, but fails to supply the solution. Worry and...

DELAY

Image
DELAY Proverbs 13:10-20 Devotional:- “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But when the desire comes, it is a tree of life” (v.12) NKJV Another strong factor militating against the joy of some people today is delay. This is an experience of expectation proving longer in coming than expected. It makes a man afraid or uncertain of what the future holds. It often weakens the faith of people and makes them feel disappointed. The word of God in our scripture today says it brings weariness to the soul. We must realise that weariness given by delay is a hindrance to our receiving from God. The more we allow weariness, the more we may be delayed. It is a trick of the enemy to keep postponing our miracles. That is why the word of God says the just shall live by faith (Romans 1:17). It is also a threat to our joy. The enemy knows that joy produces our physical, mental and spiritual strength, so he always want us to celebrate sorrow (Nehemiah 8:10). Friend, you must therefore be wise to know...

FEAR

Image
FEAR 1 John 4:11-21 Devotional:- “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love” (v.18) NKJV Among the attitudes that hinder the flow of joy is the attitude of fear. Wherever there is fear, joy cannot be there. This is because peace is like a bed that joy normally sits on. Since the opposite of peace is fear. It becomes impossible to have joy with fear. This is the major problem with many, whom we refer to as great or rich. They find it difficult to have joy simply because of the fear in their heart. Sources of fear include sin, disobedience to instruction, not living within your size, shady deals and non-believing in the word of God. The truth is fear can frustrate and kill joy, but there is something that can kill fear also. Wisdom demands that we should get what destroys fear, and this is faith. Faith is standing upon the word of God, i.e., choosing to rest because God’s word promise...

CONDEMNATION

Image
CONDEMNATION Romans 8:1-8 Devotional:- “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit” (v.1) NKJV Condemnation is often mistakenly taken as one of the behaviours of the righteous, and by it, the enemy often steals the joy of many. What most people feel like expressing is the fact that being sober brings us to a time of quality self-examination. But this has nothing to do with condemnation (2 Corinthians 7:10). It is actually the enemy that is making us feel we are not fit to live in God’s presence. It’s all together the trick of the devil to steal our joy. In the scripture we read today, the Bible says we are no longer to be condemned. Condemnation is a legal term applicable to an accused who is guilty of a crime. But Christ has taken all we are supposed to take on the cross. If you have to suffer for your sin, then the death of Christ is in vain. God’s word says we have been justified ...

PRETENDING

Image
PRETENDING Proverbs 13:1-10 Devotional:- “There is one who makes himself rich, yet has nothing; And one who makes himself poor, yet has great riches” (v.7) NKJV One other instrument of the devil to steal people’s joy is to fill their hearts with pretence. To pretend is to behave or talk like, or put yourself in a status, that you are not. It is to use what you don’t have to impress people who do not like you. It is to give people a false impression about you. This always results in a show of shame and sorrow. In the scripture we read today, there is the picture of a poor man who pretended to be rich. Who is he deceiving? Today you will see some people borrowing to spray at a party. Some will arrive at a beer parlour and ask everybody to be served, while at home, there is no food, and children's school fees are yet to be paid. Some are known to be very good outside to their secretaries, receptionists and the like, while at home they don’t have any credibility (Proverbs 12:9, Job 2...

UNFORGIVEN

Image
UNFORGIVEN Genesis 4:1-11 Devotional:- “So the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?” (v.6) NKJV It is ignorance for people to think unforgiven is a way of paying back people who offended them. Unforgiven is actually not against anyone but against oneself. It is always a trick of the enemy to steal our joy. Any time the enemy sees people happy, he always uses the trick of unforgiven to steal their joy. This is because he knows that joy will produce our strength (Nehemiah 8:10). Cain could not forgive his brother, and the enemy helped him develop his unforgiven into bitterness till he became a murderer and destroyed himself. He could not succeed on earth. Observe that when some people offends you, it makes you get bitter and unhappy. If you even try to keep it off your mind as though it does not affect you yet, when you remember or see the person, your mind suddenly becomes sorrowful and bitter. It is just a trick of the devil to steal your ...
