COMPARISM

Image
COMPARISM 2 Corinthians 10:7-18 Devotional:- “Oh, don't worry; we wouldn't dare say that we are as wonderful as these other men who tell you how important they are! But they are only comparing themselves with each other, using themselves as the standard of measurement. How ignorant!” (v.12) NLT. Man, by his complexity, sometimes creates complications for himself in life. One of the things we often do incorrectly is to measure our lives by comparing them to other people’s lives. We often forget that we are sent for a different purpose, so our goals and objectives cannot be the same. There is nothing wrong with trying to gauge your level of performance against others in the same field. But it will be completely wrong for you to determine whether you are a failure or a success by the life of another man. Paul, the apostle of Christ, knows that his own purpose and program are from the Lord and are different from what others have been given. For example, if some apostles were marr...

THE PAST

Image
THE PAST Isaiah 43:8-21 Devotional:- “Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old.” (v.18) NKJV God, who gives us a memory, want us to use our past experiences to help us make quality decisions in the future, but the past is always the enemy of the future for many. If you don’t know how to manage your memory system of the past, it is capable of standing against your success in the future. As emotional beings, we are sometimes faced with the challenges of memories of our past experiences, our errors and failures. You will observe that at every point of decision-making to progress, the enemy will bring back to your memory the past experiences of your failure. This is just to bring fear to your heart and make you doubt the possibility of your success, so you could lose your joy. The scripture we read today instructs us to let go of the past. God is starting a brand-new thing with you. He is giving you new experiences of success and breakthrough. You need to lea...

GRUMBLING

Image
GRUMBLING I Corinthians 10:1-13 Devotional:- “nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer” (v.10) NKJV The act of grumbling is a means through which the enemy carefully removes the joy of many. Grumbling is a silent reaction to an instruction or a responsibility you must undertake. It is not feeling free to express one's mind about what one is satisfied with. People grumble against God about their challenges. They also grumble against their masters or bosses in the office. When the children of Israel were going through the wilderness, they were faced with several needs on their way, and each time they tried to shift blame to God, who had mercy on them and organised to put them in Canaan. When they lack water, they grumble; when it is meat, they grumble, and God sent the angel of destruction to destroy them. It is important to note that instead of grumbling under your breath or in your workplace, you should find a way to express your mind so ...

WORRY

Image
WORRY Luke 12:22-31 Devotional:- “And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?” (v.25) NKJV Another cheap way for the enemy to steal the joy of people on the earth is by making them worry about issues of life. For many, it is difficult to separate worrying from being thoughtful. It is often said by experts that, only a small percentage of men use their brains to solve their problems, and this means the rest take up anxiety and worry. So many people on earth are victims of worry. The truth is that your life is not designed for sorrow. That is why sorrow brings pain to your system. It is alien to your nature. Worry is making a survey of your problems, magnifying your situation and bringing you to a pit of pity. This does no good to no one; it rather increases your fear and failure. It blocks your mind from thinking of a solution, but celebrates your downfall. It always disguises itself as a sincere thought about oneself, but fails to supply the solution. Worry and...

DELAY

Image
DELAY Proverbs 13:10-20 Devotional:- “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But when the desire comes, it is a tree of life” (v.12) NKJV Another strong factor militating against the joy of some people today is delay. This is an experience of expectation proving longer in coming than expected. It makes a man afraid or uncertain of what the future holds. It often weakens the faith of people and makes them feel disappointed. The word of God in our scripture today says it brings weariness to the soul. We must realise that weariness given by delay is a hindrance to our receiving from God. The more we allow weariness, the more we may be delayed. It is a trick of the enemy to keep postponing our miracles. That is why the word of God says the just shall live by faith (Romans 1:17). It is also a threat to our joy. The enemy knows that joy produces our physical, mental and spiritual strength, so he always want us to celebrate sorrow (Nehemiah 8:10). Friend, you must therefore be wise to know...

FEAR

Image
FEAR 1 John 4:11-21 Devotional:- “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love” (v.18) NKJV Among the attitudes that hinder the flow of joy is the attitude of fear. Wherever there is fear, joy cannot be there. This is because peace is like a bed that joy normally sits on. Since the opposite of peace is fear. It becomes impossible to have joy with fear. This is the major problem with many, whom we refer to as great or rich. They find it difficult to have joy simply because of the fear in their heart. Sources of fear include sin, disobedience to instruction, not living within your size, shady deals and non-believing in the word of God. The truth is fear can frustrate and kill joy, but there is something that can kill fear also. Wisdom demands that we should get what destroys fear, and this is faith. Faith is standing upon the word of God, i.e., choosing to rest because God’s word promise...

CONDEMNATION

Image
CONDEMNATION Romans 8:1-8 Devotional:- “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit” (v.1) NKJV Condemnation is often mistakenly taken as one of the behaviours of the righteous, and by it, the enemy often steals the joy of many. What most people feel like expressing is the fact that being sober brings us to a time of quality self-examination. But this has nothing to do with condemnation (2 Corinthians 7:10). It is actually the enemy that is making us feel we are not fit to live in God’s presence. It’s all together the trick of the devil to steal our joy. In the scripture we read today, the Bible says we are no longer to be condemned. Condemnation is a legal term applicable to an accused who is guilty of a crime. But Christ has taken all we are supposed to take on the cross. If you have to suffer for your sin, then the death of Christ is in vain. God’s word says we have been justified ...

PRETENDING

Image
PRETENDING Proverbs 13:1-10 Devotional:- “There is one who makes himself rich, yet has nothing; And one who makes himself poor, yet has great riches” (v.7) NKJV One other instrument of the devil to steal people’s joy is to fill their hearts with pretence. To pretend is to behave or talk like, or put yourself in a status, that you are not. It is to use what you don’t have to impress people who do not like you. It is to give people a false impression about you. This always results in a show of shame and sorrow. In the scripture we read today, there is the picture of a poor man who pretended to be rich. Who is he deceiving? Today you will see some people borrowing to spray at a party. Some will arrive at a beer parlour and ask everybody to be served, while at home, there is no food, and children's school fees are yet to be paid. Some are known to be very good outside to their secretaries, receptionists and the like, while at home they don’t have any credibility (Proverbs 12:9, Job 2...

UNFORGIVEN

Image
UNFORGIVEN Genesis 4:1-11 Devotional:- “So the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?” (v.6) NKJV It is ignorance for people to think unforgiven is a way of paying back people who offended them. Unforgiven is actually not against anyone but against oneself. It is always a trick of the enemy to steal our joy. Any time the enemy sees people happy, he always uses the trick of unforgiven to steal their joy. This is because he knows that joy will produce our strength (Nehemiah 8:10). Cain could not forgive his brother, and the enemy helped him develop his unforgiven into bitterness till he became a murderer and destroyed himself. He could not succeed on earth. Observe that when some people offends you, it makes you get bitter and unhappy. If you even try to keep it off your mind as though it does not affect you yet, when you remember or see the person, your mind suddenly becomes sorrowful and bitter. It is just a trick of the devil to steal your ...

GIVER'S JOY

Image
GIVER’S JOY Acts 20:31-38 Devotional:- “I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive'" (v.35) NKJV A man, in his poor way of looking at things, thinks it is wiser to keep receiving. But do you know that it is more blessed to give? Some only want to enjoy receiving, and they don’t enjoy giving. Some will even give water to you as if they are giving their blood. So many don’t even have the mind of a giver. They prefer to keep saving (Proverbs 21:26). But we need to understand the purpose of our creation. Man is created to be a giver. We are created to help others. It is only in giving that we can find joy and fulfilment. It is often said that the hand of the giver is always at the top (Proverbs 22:7). It is in giving that we can be blessed.  Please understand that God is always looking for givers. Every time God impress it in your hea...

GOD WITH YOU

Image
GOD WITH YOU Esther 8:9-17 Devotional:- “The Jews had light and gladness, joy and honor” (v.16) NKJV      There is nothing as beautiful as when God is with a man. All things will just be working wonderfully for him. Such a person enjoys God’s favour and mercy. He enjoys the grace of God. And as a result of grace, God preserves him from all evil and prospers his endeavour. The enemy of such a person will always be put to shame, and because of God’s presence with him, He will always be filled with testimonies of joy. Do you know that this is God’s plan for your life because the Lord is with you? (Isaiah 43:2). Though the Jews were in a land of slavery, the presence of the Lord was with them. And by this, they were preserved and protected. At one time, a man rose against the Jews to destroy them, but God fought for them (Romans 8:31). A letter went out from the King for all the Jews to be destroyed, but God turned it around in their favour. So they were victorious, an...

SUSTAINING JOY

Image
SUSTAINING JOY Hebrews 1:1-10 Devotional:- “who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high” (V. 3) NKJV You must come to know that the joy that will be sustained must come from the word of God. This is because God sustains all things by His word. Many people have joy yesterday and sorrow today. This is because they put their joy in material profit I would like to introduce you to what sustains all things: it is the word of God. Put your faith and hope only in the word and not in the things of the world. While others are failing, you will keep rising (Psalm 4:18). By the word of God, you can sustain your joy, peace and prosperity. Put your hope in the word and stop that fear because of what they told you. Take faith in what God says, and your joy shall be everlasting. Peace! Prayer: Lord, help me to hold on to your...

DELIGHT IN THE WORD

Image
DELIGHT IN THE WORD Psalm 119:97-104         Devotional:- “How sweet are Your words to my taste, Sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (v.103) NKJV One of the greatest strengths of joy is the Word of God. The truth is that man’s life is a product of the information that he always listen to. If a man always hears about wickedness, he will be wicked. If a man keeps hearing sorrowful news, he will keep having sorrow. But for those who will always commune in the word of God, they will keep their joy by the word of God. This is because the word of God is good news; it’s the joyful news. There is no way you will give yourself to regular drinking from the word of God; that joy will not be produced regularly in you. The word is a sure source of joy. The psalmist says God’s word is sweet not only to him but also to everyone who loves it. The reason why many Christians today still have sorrow despite the Bible in their hand is that it is a book to decorate their shelf a...

WILLING SACRIFICES

Image
WILLING SACRIFICES 1 Chronicles 29:1-9 Devotional:‐ “Then the people rejoiced, for they had offered willingly, because with a loyal heart they had offered willingly to the LORD; and King David also rejoiced greatly” (v.9) NKJV Generations of men have always misunderstood giving. To them it looks like they are reducing when God is asking them to give. Also, most people have not come to the understanding that we are creatures made to find fulfilment only when we give. You need to observe that orange is a waste when no one suck it. Also, life will be a waste when it benefits no one. If you really want joy, one of the strongest sources is a sense of fulfilment (sense of success). And this can only come when you have joyfully given unto the Lord or others (2 Timothy 4:6). That is, when you have willingly flowed out to others. The people we read about today were challenged to give willingly to the work of the Lord. And this brought them great joy. See, the greatest moment of your life ...

LOST AND FOUND

Image
LOST AND FOUND Luke 15:1-10 Devotional:- “Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents" (v.10) NKJV So many people today have allowed their situation and circumstances to affect their lives before the Lord. Some have totally lost their faith in God. They can no longer hope in the Lord their God. You could even observe many who are your contemporaries, and you can no longer see them in the Lord. They can no longer hope and wait on God, and you cannot really find them around again. They are simply nowhere to be found. There are several reasons why this happens to people. It’s either that they become offended in the church or with the pastor and feel it is enough of Christ. Some actually, for one reason or another, want to change their church for a better one but find themselves in spiritual confusion. They will in the end become backsliders. Many do not know that it is a high level of maturity to be part of the builders of w...

PROGRESS

Image
PROGRESS Luke 10:17-24 Devotional:- “In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, "I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight” (v.21) NKJV A very strong factor of joy is good result. This is attaining a goal you have set ahead of yourself. Anyone who sets and achieves a goal naturally experiences a kind of joy, and this is why you must be an achiever too. The Bible talks about fullness of joy in God’s presence (Psalm 16:11). One of the factors responsible for good result is the fulfilment of God’s word. The word of God says there is a great joy in heaven over a sinner that repents (Luke 15:7). And since you are a child of God, your life must also experience the joy of achievement. When the disciples of Jesus returned to Him, it was with joy because they had achieved their goal as instructed by the Lord; the bible says Jesus also ...

LIBERTY

Image
LIBERTY Acts 16:16-30 Devotional:- “But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them” (v.25) NKJV One of the greatest results of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in a believer is that he is set free from the cages of life. When a man is in bondage of life, he cannot have full strength in him. But even when a man who has gained his liberty by the Spirit of God is bound in prison, the joy in him cannot be hindered (Acts 16:23-25). In the scripture we read today are the events of Paul and Silas, the apostles of Jesus, who were imprisoned for preaching the good news. But though they are in prison, the Holy Spirit has set their heart free, so physical prison cannot stop the joy of God in their life. And since their heart is set free by the Holy Spirit, the natural bondage cannot hold them (2 Corinthians 3:17). You as a believer, must be careful not to allow anything to bind you when Christ has set you free (Galatians 5:1)....

JOY IN THE CITY

Image
JOY IN THE CITY Acts 8:1-8 Devotional:- “And there was great joy in that city” (v.8) NKJV Another powerful producer of joy is Christ in your life (Colossians 1:27). Christ can change our sorrow into joy. He came to set us free from the power that caged us in sorrow. He came to give us the key to joy. Many have not come to know that having Christ in their life is not just about going to church. The truth you need to hear is that when you give room to Christ in your life, you have given room to joy (Luke 2:10). The scripture we read today is the report of what happened to the city of Samaria. They accommodated Jesus Christ in their life, and God’s word reported that there was great joy in that city. The confusion is that there are many in church today without Christ; they have confessed Jesus Christ as their Saviour, but they don’t have room for him in their heart. They are workers and leaders, but have no room for Christ. When Christ has room in your life, He will change yo...

GOOD RELATIONSHIP

Image
GOOD RELATIONSHIP Genesis 24:60-67 Devotional:- “Then Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent; and he took Rebekah and she became his wife, and he loved her. So Isaac was comforted after his mother's death” (v.67) NKJV Relationship, as it were, can be both good and bad. It can be a factor for either sorrow or joy. When you find a good relationship, you will enjoy the beauty of it’s joy. A good relationship will bring increase and growth and will always come with joy. When a man finds a good relationship, he will enjoy it’s blessings. Everyone loves to have a good relationship that is full of joy, but people do not know that it is their responsibility to make their relationship good. In our scripture today, we read about Isaac, who met his wife and accommodated her with a mature heart, and this brought great comfort to his life. It doesn’t mean that the woman was perfect, but he has a mature attitude of love. This made them enjoy a lovely and joyful marriage (Genesis 26...

SPEAKING JOY

Image
SPEAKING JOY Genesis 21:1-7 Devotional:- “And Sarah said, "God has made me laugh, and all who hear will laugh with me."" (v.6) NKJV It is important that you know that your life is determined by your choice. It is what you say your life will be that it shall be. Men are simply victims of their own beliefs and words (Proverbs 6:2). That is why you and I need to be careful of what we declare about our lives, family and pursuit (Isaiah 43:26). The woman we read about today was a woman of faith. When she gave birth to her child, she called him laughter. She, by her mouth, rejoices at the gift of God to her life. No matter the colour or look of the child, her own name for the baby is laughter. God’s word talks about Moses' mother, she saw her child as good and could not surrender him for killing (Exodus 2:2). Watch out, it is what you call your life that it shall be. Many gifts God gave to people are turned into sorrow by the name they call it. God has blessed some with ...

COMING WITH SINGING

Image
COMING WITH SINGING Isaiah 51:7-12 Devotional:- “So the ransomed of the LORD shall return, And come to Zion with singing, With everlasting joy on their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness; Sorrow and sighing shall flee away” (V. 11) NKJV Although the world is currently experiencing an increase in sorrow and sorrowful news, God has no such plan for His children. Zion is the place where God has ordained joy. That is why all God’s children must locate their Zion. This is where we gather to worship the name of the Lord, which we refer to as a place of worship today (the church). In our scripture today, God’s word reminds us of how we are to come to Zion to find the restoration of our joy and sustain it. This is by worshipping the Lord; this is by talking about His deeds in life. Wherever God is praised, He will always manifest His power. Then the redeemed of the Lord shall always return with singing to Zion. In other words, you and your family can start to praise God in that ho...

GOOD REPORT

Image
GOOD REPORT   Proverbs 15:28-33 Devotional:- “The light of the eyes rejoices the heart, And a good report makes the bones healthy” (v.30) NKJV Today, in the whole world, the only kind of news celebrated by men is bad news. The reporters have also realised that people want bad news. So, they hardly report good things. If you listen to the news, read from the media or browse through the net, it is all about evil things happening all over the world. This is the trick of the enemy to cage the sons of men into sorrow and break the flow of joy in the lives of the people. The scripture we read today says, “good report makes the heart glad”. You must recognise the principle of a joyful life. It is a product of regular joyful reports (Proverbs 25:25). It is what you love to hear that your life will look like (Mark 4:24). you must know you are a product of what you are hearing. Friend, this demands that you should be careful of what you hear if you want to live in joy. A sorrowful rep...

GOD’S BLESSINGS

Image
GOD’S BLESSINGS Proverbs 10:14-24 Devotional:- “The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it” (v.22) NKJV God, in his goodness, have been so gracious to the sons of men in this season, and many of God’s children are beginning to enjoy the blessing of the Lord. This is God’s faithfulness. If you have not entered into your portion now, it shall come. It is important that we understand that these blessings can only be preserved when we disallow the seed of sorrow to come into them. The scripture we read today says, “it's only God’s blessing that is void of sorrow”. This means when we allow God to be our source, our joy is guaranteed. It means dubiously seeking a blessing will produce sorrow. We should be careful not to crave for money and employ wicked means to attain it. Such is a seed of sorrow (Proverbs 15:27). Please refuse to join those who are cheating, stealing, killing and doing all sorts of things today to get money. Such is not a blessing but a cu...

JOY OF HARVEST

Image
JOY OF HARVEST  Isaiah 9:1-7 Devotional:- “You have multiplied the nation And increased its joy; They rejoice before You According to the joy of harvest, As men rejoice when they divide the spoil” (v.3) NKJV Seasons of harvest are one of God’s means of bringing joy into the lives of His people. So among the types of joy, there is the joy of harvest. That joy is coming to be in your life, business and ministry this year. The season of sowing is not always an easy time for many who have not understood the mystery of sowing. So, such a season will always look painful for them. Sowing does not only apply to farmers or givers, but also to all who are pursuing their goals and projects. God’s word also confirms the pain of sowing time and also establishes the joy of harvest (Psalm 126:5-6). That simply establishes God’s promises for you in the remaining days of the year. It doesn’t matter how long you have been sowing without reaping; now your harvest shall come. Some have been sow...

JOY DEFINED

Image
JOY DEFINED II Corinthians 3:7-18 “Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” (v.17) NKJV The reason many don’t always experience or retain joy is that they don’t really understand what joy is. We sometimes relate it to laughter, but this is not so. Laughter is only one of the components of joy, and there are others, such as freedom or a free system. To define joy, you will need to first understand that it is the product of the presence of God (Psalm 16:11). That is why it is not equal to happiness that is caused by a happening or an event, but joy is a result of an indwelling Spirit of God. Happiness is temporal, while joy is an abiding Spirit. Our scripture today taught us the meaning of joy. It is simply a released heart, and this is brought by the Spirit of God. It is a heart free from all manner of bondages. Loose yourself from all manner of bondage of condemnation. It is a way of opening up our hearts for the peace and rest in God to ...

ATMOSPHERE OF JOY

Image
ATMOSPHERE OF JOY John 15:5-17 Devotional:- “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full” (v.11) NKJV For anyone to swim in any atmosphere, he must first create it around himself. The truth is that it is the atmosphere you create around yourself that truly exists with you. For anyone to have the atmosphere of joy, one of the things that the atmosphere must be composed of is love. Some partners work together with joy, and one of the strongest of them is love. Jesus said we should love one another that our joy may be full (John 15:10-17). So, it means what gives maximum joy is love; this is because God himself is love (1 John 4:7-8). God’s word says that in the presence of God, there is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11). It therefore becomes impossible to want to have joy in the midst of hatred. So many people who have faced a crisis at home will always want to go out to a joint, wanting to feel happy and secure joy. Such joy does not...

VOICES OF MERRY

Image
VOICES OF MERRY Jeremiah 30:16-22 Devotional:- “Then out of them shall proceed thanksgiving And the voice of those who make merry; I will multiply them, and they shall not diminish; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small” (v.19) NKJV It is amazing to see how the world is multiplying in sorrow. The proceeds of the heart of men today are sorrow. Daily, we hear news of sorrow. Evil things are daily befalling the sons of men. There is hardly a day without the news of sorrow. Strong nations are becoming victims of sorrow. The enemy seems to be growing stronger to afflict the world. It is important that you realise that this world is simply experiencing the event of the end time. What you need to know is the plan of God for you and your family in the midst of the many sorrows. And that is what God is speaking about in the scripture that we read today. Instead of sorrowful news the world is experiencing, He said Out of you shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them ...

SORROW TURNED JOY

Image
SORROW TURNED JOY  John 16:19-24 Devotional:- “Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy” (v.20) NKJV God’s word says, Sorrow may endure till a night, but joy will always come in the morning (Psalm 30:5). This is an assurance and evidence that what is called sorrow is not a permanent situation in the life of a child of God. This is because it is certain that when night comes, morning is always the next as God has covenanted it (Genesis 8:22). The night is evidence of the coming morning. This is evidence that what you are going through right now will soon result in joy. In fact, the tougher it is, the closer to your joy. You will see your joy. The scripture we read today gave us a new dimension of hope for our lives. Jesus said our sorrow shall turn to joy. That which we think is a thing of sorrow shall surely become a thing of joy. Jesus liken it to a woman in a l...

PROMISES OF JOY

Image
PROMISES OF JOY Isaiah 55:6-13 Devotional:- “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it” (v.11) NKJV One thing that is common with lovers is promises. It is part of what a true lover will want to hear. To a true lover, a promise is like a cheque left that can be turned into cash. So when people who loves us give us promises, we cherish them. And when we remember them, it gladdens our hearts. We often feel happy enough to share it with other friends. One terrible thing that is common with men is failed promises. These, in some cases, are due to the inadequacy of human strength or unforeseen circumstances that can overtake the promises and make man look like a deceiver. But God is not like man. He will fulfil all that He has promised you. No matter what the case may be, His word will come to pass. Who will say that Sarah will bear a son to Abraham at 90 or ...

EVERLASTING JOY

Image
EVERLASTING JOY  Isaiah 35:1-10 Devotional:- “And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, And come to Zion with singing, With everlasting joy on their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness, And sorrow and sighing shall flee away” (v.10) NKJV      If you will receive this word by faith, it shall be yours forever. “From now on, you shall experience everlasting joy” Everlasting joy is the joy that will last till eternity, this is the joy of salvation (Psalm 51:12). The fact is that we live in a world with seasons, and these seasons come and go. They have made life unstable for many who live by the seasons. But the will and the promise of God concerning your life is that you will keep having unending joy. Now your sorrow shall flee away, then you will start to obtain joy.
