Many even ignorantly go into covenant with others in the name of family relation or financial help and could not fulfil their pledge. Some give pledges in public, though they are not sure if they will be able to pay. Some have borrowed money and have not been able to pay back after promising to do so. It is better not to promise than to promise and not fulfil it; be very careful rushing to make dangerous promises. Else God will not count you innocent and faithful. And his ric...

OVERCOMING OPPRESSION

OVERCOMING OPPRESSION

Luke 9:37-42
Devotional:- “And as he was still coming, the demon threw him down and convulsed him. Then Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, healed the child, and gave him back to his father” (V. 42) NKJV

One force or the other often oppresses people today.  The devil knows how to torment people secretly. In most cases, only the victims know what they are going through. Precisely, it is the spirit of the devil that oppresses humans. Many have been robbed of good sleep and rest. Others don’t enjoy being alive anymore. The boy we read about today was also under the oppression of the devil. This force made him fall down and sometimes threw him inside fire. This force disgraced him everywhere by making him fall to the ground and foam in the mouth. Such disease will even make some roll on the floor in public or make them scratch their body with stones.

To overcome an oppressive spirit, a man needs to be delivered by a superior power, the power of God. A man can get delivered by being determined to divorce the devil and all his work in the name of Jesus. This can be done by the assistance of the Holy Spirit not minding the reaction of the devil. But that is not enough, Jesus said, when a spirit is cast out, it will always come back to check if it can find a space to stay. And except it found a stronger spirit in the heart of the person, it will come back again in seven folds (Mathew 12:43-45)

This demands that you build yourself strong in the Lord. The problem with many is that they don’t want to be tormented but they don’t also want to be strong in the Lord. To be strong, you need to be baptized with the Holy Spirit. Grow up your faith in the word of God. Cultivate a lifestyle of personal and collective fellowship with God, and walk in total obedience to God to earn boldness to resist the devil (Proverbs 28:1). Ingratitude is always at the root of every depression. Always purge your heart with the blood of Jesus and be thankful. Be strong in the Lord (Ephesians 6:10). Know that the devil is a liar. Whatever he tells you is not true (John 8:44). Stop being afraid of him and your life shall experience total liberty in Jesus Christ.

PRAYER: LORD, GRANT ME STRENGTH TO OVERCOME EVERY OPPRESSIVE SPIRIT.

“IT TAKES A STRONGER POWER TO OPPRESS THE WEAK”
