SOCIAL CAPITAL
Luke 16:1-13
Devotional-"And I say to you, make friends for yourselves by unrighteous mammon, that when you fail, they may receive you into an everlasting home” (V. 9)
One of the most potent and widely misunderstood virtue is that of social capita. Many have dashed their destinies because of their wrong view of this. Many turned wicked and some turned to organizing robbery and kidnapping of their friends for money since their expectations from people they depended on are not forth coming. It is the reason why crime is increasing in the land today. This is because people feel someone have and he did not give them. So, they want to get their share anyway.
Jesus told a parable about a servant whose master wanted to sack. In his hopelessness he started treating the customers well with his masters good. This is out rightly wrong but the master commended him for something. Social capital is capital deposited in people to later collect it back even with interest without they knowing. See, you have something or you know something that can help others, use it to help. It is the help you render to someone today that becomes your social capital harvest tomorrow.
Friend, observe that most of the help you enjoy are often from people you have helped before. To think because you are just playing and laughing with people will qualify you for their things is not really true. Don't be lazy or idle. Your gift and talents, your opportunities are for social capital investment. I pity those who have been in church for ten years and bless nobody either with their ability or substance. Don't be proud. Be a blessing and you shall be blessed. Peace!
PRAYER: Lord, give me the wisdom of a contributor.
