LOVE DEFINED

LOVE DEFINED I John 4:7-11 Devotional:- “He who does not love does not know God, for God is love” (V.8) NKJV Today, many people have been put into great trouble simply because they are looking for love. Since the nature of man cannot enjoy living without a lover, everyone searches for one wholeheartedly. If you find anyone who says he doesn’t need love from anyone, he is not sincere. He will soon find himself in desperate need of love. Since love is a universal need, men always seek for it, and most people never find it. There are quite a lot of things men term love, which are not, and has inturn misled and confused them. Until you can define your need, you may not have them met. This necessitates the need to truly define love. The scripture we read today gave us the true meaning of love. And you will be wise to embrace the word of God. It said, “God is love” (1 John 4:8). This mean God is love personified. It is His character and attitude. You can always define God as love. That is t...

SUCCESS AND YOUR PURPOSE

Image
SUCCESS YOUR PURPOSE 2 Timothy 4:1-8 Devotional:- “And now the prize awaits me-the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing” (V. 8) NLT When a person turns to the Lord, invite Jesus to his/her life, and surrender to Jesus as Lord and saviour, then he/she sincerely becomes a Christian. This is the state many in the church has not attained. Many struggle to surrender their lives to the Lord because they are afraid of failure, not able to trust God to give them success, and their love for the things of this world (1 John 2:15-17). When you sincerely surrender your life to Jesus Christ, your view of success cannot but change. Apostle Paul said, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful” (2 Timothy 4:7). When you start to live for God, your definition of success will change from materials to purpose. Liv...

LIVING WITH PURPOSE

Image
LIVING WITH PURPOSE Proverbs 19:16-23 Devotional – “You can make many plans, but the LORD's purpose will prevail” (v. 21 NLT) Living on purpose is the only way to really live; everything else just merely exists. Most people struggle with these three questions in life; WHO AM I? (Identity); WHY AM I MADE? (Purpose); WHAT IS MY PLACE IN LIFE? (Impact). The answers to these entire questions are found in five Gods purpose for you. Now that you know God’s purpose for your life, it is important you live in it. For you not to drift away from the most important things of life, it is important to develop a purpose statement for your life and regularly review it. This is a statement that summarizes God’s purpose for your life (Psalm 39:11). It is a statement that point the direction of your life (Proverbs 4:26). It spells out what you are to do and what not (Proverbs 17:24). It is a statement that defines success for you (Philippians 1:10). It is a statement that clarifies your roles and i...

WORLD CLASS CHRISTIAN

Image
WORLD CLASS CHRISTIAN Mark 16:14-20 Devotional:- “And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (V. 15) There are two types of Christians in the world: The world class Christians and the worldly Christian. You are either in one of these groups. The worldly Christians look to God primarily for personal needs. They are saved but self-centered. Their prayer focuses on me first and focuses on their needs, blessings and happiness or comfort. They want to use God for their purpose instead of been used for Gods purposes. “Jesus sent us to reach the world, be part”.  In contrast, world class Christians are people who are saved and know that they are here to serve the purpose of God. Find them anywhere in the world they will be serving God’s purpose. They are eager to receive personal assignment and excited about the privilege of been used by God. Everything they do in life is towards fulfilling the purpose of God and not just for worldly pleasu...

SHARING YOUR LIFE MESSAGE

Image
SHARING YOUR LIFE MESSAGE 1 John 5:6-13 Devotional:- “He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son” (V. 10) It is important we know that when we become believers we also become God’s messengers. God want to speak to the world through you (2 Corinthians 2:17). As messengers of Christ we must be willing to share the gospel wherever we find ourselves. Our life messages have four parts. Your life message includes your testimony. This is the story of how Christ has made a difference in your life (1 Peter 2:9). True witnesses are to simply reporting what happen to them or what they saw. These are all about; what my life was before I met Jesus, how I realized I needed Jesus; how I committed my life to Jesus, the difference Jesus has made in my life. Your life message also includes your life lessons. This is the truth God has taught you through experie...

YOU ARE A MISSIONARY

Image
YOU ARE A MISSIONARY John 17:6-19 Devotional:- “As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. (V. 18 NLT) God is working all over the world and He has made you to be part of His work. It is the assignment of God for all Christians that is called Mission (2 Corinthians 5:20) Fulfilling your mission on earth is the fifth purpose of your life. Mission means been sent and every Christians is sent by the Lord (John 20:21). When we are saved, we become members of God’s family and the mission of Jesus becomes our mission.  Your mission is important and it is a continuation of the mission of Jesus. So to ignore it will be a sin (Matthew 28:19-20). It is important because it's a wonderful privilege (2 Corinthians 5:18). It is important because telling others about eternal life is the greatest thing you can do for them. That is why it's more important than any other job, achievements of goals you will ever reach in your lifetime. This is because you are connecti...

HOW SERVANTS THINK

Image
HOW SERVANTS THINK Numbers 14:11-25 Devotional:- “But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it” (V. 24).   To be a servant requires complete mental shift and change in attitude. Before God, attitude count more than achievement (2 Chronicles 25:2). So, when we look at how real servants think, they think more about others than themselves. Humility is not thinking less of ourselves but thinking of ourselves less (Philippians 2:4). Jesus takes the form of a servant (Philippians 2:7). We can measure our servant’s heart by how we respond when others treat us as servants. Real servants think like a steward and not owner. They keep in mind that God owns it all.  To become a real servant you’ve got to settle the issue of money in your life (Luke 16:13). Please understand that money has a great potential to replace God in our heart. When Jesus is your master...

HOW REAL SERVANTS ACT

Image
HOW REAL SERVANTS ACT Mark 10:35-45 Devotional:- “Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant” (V. 43).   The world defines greatness in terms of power, possessions, prestige and position but God determined your greatness by how many people you serve. This is quite contrary to the world view. Jesus called Himself servant and to be like Him is to be a servant. That is why it is so important to have a servant’s heart. God often test our heart by asking us to serve even outside our shape or area of interest. Your priority area of service should be in your area of shape, but God could demand for your service wherever needed. Looking at how a servant act is important because one could serve in a church for years and not be a real servant. Real servants make themselves available to serve. If you only serve when it is convenient, then you are not a good servant (2 Timothy 2:4). Real servants pay attention to needs, always lo...

USING WHAT GOD GIVES YOU

Image
USING WHAT GOD GIVES YOU Romans 12:3-8 Devotional:- “So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another” (V.5) God who has made each of us and expect us to make the best use of what he has given us. Instead of envying others’ SHAPE, He wants you to be happy using the one he has given you. Your first step for been the best with your shape is to locate as many as possible gifts and special abilities in your life. Make a list out of them and ask which of them you have seen result and others do confirm (Ephesians 5:17). The best way to discover your best is by excising them in serving God, and then you will discover your good area in life. To know what you can best do to serve God by blessing humanity, observe your personality and your passion which is your heart desire (Galatians 6:4). Ask yourself what do I really enjoy doing most? What do I really feel fulfilled doing? Examine the lesson you’ve learnt in your experiences in life. (Deuteronomy 11:2)...

UNDERSTANDING YOUR SHAPE

Image
UNDERSTANDING YOUR SHAPE Jeremiah 1:4-12 Devotional:- “I knew you before I formed you in your mother's womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” (V.5 NLT) As a people crated to serve the Lord, God has design each of us in a unique way to be able to serve Him. We are so uniquely created that no one can find your duplicate. If you don’t contribute your part to the body of Christ God will make a replacement. (Act 1:20).  Look at the meaning of your shape the letter “A” represents your SPECIAL ABILITY. These are special abilities and talents given to you from birth. It is important we come to know that all our special abilities come from God.(Rom 12:6 ). So many people often give excuses of not having any ability to serve God but research shows that each of us has variety of 500 to 700 abilities. You are able to take thousands of decision in a second and more so you are loaded with special abilities. Please know that every abilit...

DESIGNED TO SERVE GOD

Image
DESIGNED TO SERVE GOD Psalm 139:13-18 Devotional:- “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!” (V. 16 NLT)   God designed and formed you to fit into what He wants you to do to serve Him. The intended function determines the form of a building, so also your life. You are the way you are because you were made for specific ministry (Ephesians 2:10) Our scripture today simply means nothing that happens in your life is insignificant. God will never waste any ability unless He intend to use it for His glory (1 Peter 2:9) Before God will give you any assignment, He must have packaged you for it. This packaging is what we call shape (Jeremiah 1:5). Let us look at the meaning of each letter in your shape. The ‘S’ represents Spiritual gifts. These are special God-empowered abilities for serving Him, giving only to believers (1 Cor. 2:14). These gift cannot be bought because they are given by the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 12:11). We are to use them to benefit on...

MADE TO SERVE GOD

Image
MADE TO SERVE GOD 1 Corinthians 3:5-17 Devotional:- “For we are both God's workers. And you are God's field. You are God's building. (V.9 NLT) God put you on earth to make contributions and make a difference with your life. Another purpose of your life is to serve the Lord wherever you are. You are created to add to the earth and not just to take from it. This purpose of your life is called ministry or service. It is very important that you live in this consciousness, you were created to serve God (Ephesians 2:10). Wherever you are either in the school or in the office, be sure you are serving God and fulfilling your purpose.  God saved you to serve Him. Your work, business or academic is also a work and a service to the Lord (Ephesians 6:5-7). God redeemed you to do His holy work everywhere in your life. It is service that gives value to your life (2 Timothy 1:9). Ministry is not only for pastors but for all members of the body of Christ. We are not to sit and wait for h...

NOT AUTOMATIC

Image
NOT AUTOMATIC Philippians.1:1-11 Devotional:- “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns” (V.6 NLT) Knowing fully well that spiritual growth is one of your purpose of been on the earth, then you also need to know that developing Christ-like character takes years, it is not automatic. We open to God bit by bit. Discipleship is the process of conforming to Christ (Romans 12:2, Ephesians 4:13). The truth is that the journey to Christ-likeness is a life time journey. Growth involves believing, belonging (through fellowship) and becoming (through discipleship). Every day God want you to become a little more like Him (Colossians 3:10) Today we are interested in speed but God is interested in strength and stability than swiftness (2 Corinthians 3:18). The reason it takes time to grow is because we are slow learner. We often have to relearn a lesson forth or fifty times to reall...

TRANSFORMED BY TROUBLE

Image
TRANSFORMED BY TROUBLE 2 Corinthians 4:7-18 Devotional:- “For our present troubles are small and won't last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!” (V. 17) NLT  God has a purpose behind every problem. God depends more on circumstances to grow our character than reading the Bible; this is because we have challenging circumstances twenty four seven. The word of God made us to see challenges in our life as normal (1 Peter 4:18). Your deepest expression of worship is mostly in the darkest days. It is during suffering that we learn to pray our most authentic, heart-felt and honest prayers to God (James 5:16). God would have kept Jeremiah from the throne to the pit, Joseph from been thrown into the jail, Paul from been shipwrecked or the three Hebrew from been thrown into the fire but he left those problems to himself. You will never know that God is all you need until God is all you have.  Everything that happens to you has spir...

FACTORS OF GROWTH

Image
FACTORS OF GROWTH Deuteronomy 8:1-10 Devotional:- “So He humble you, allow you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your father’s know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord” (V. 3)   Spiritual growth is the process of replacing lives with the truth (John 17:17). To become like Jesus we must fill our lives with his word. (2 Timothy 3:17). The word of God is powerful, so when God speak things change. To be a healthy disciple of Jesus you must feed on the word of God. This is what it mean to abide in Christ and Christ in you. This is by remaining in the word of God and obeying the word. To abide in God’s word you must accept the authority of the word of God (John 8:31). In other words the Bible must become the standard of your life. You must make the word of God the compass for your life. The word must become the counsel you listen to for wise decision ...

GROWING

Image
GROWING Ephesians 4:9-16 Devotional:- “But, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head of Christ” (V. 15) God’s plan and desire is that we grow up. So many Christian today are growing older but not growing up. Many are stocked in perpetual spiritual infancy. This is because they never intend to grow. Spiritual growth is not automatic, it takes intentional commitment. You must want to grow, decide to grow, make an effort and persist in growing. Discipleship is the process of becoming like Christ (Matthew 10:25). In your spiritual growth, God has a part and you have a part. To be Christ-like you will need to make Christ like choices and depend on the Holy Spirit to help you fulfill those choices. The moment you are ready, you will need to let go of some old routines and develop some new habits. You will need to intentionally change the way you are thinking (Philippians 2:12-13). To work out your salvation with fear and trembling means to take you...

BECOMING LIKE CHRIST

Image
BECOMING LIKE CHRIST Romans 8:18-30 Devotional:- “For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His son, that He might be the first born among many brethren” (V. 29) The third purpose of your life is to become like Christ. From the very beginning God intend to make man to be like Himself (Gen 1:26). So like God, we are made a spirit and our spirit lives the body. We are intellectual, we can think and solve problems. We are relational, i.e. we can give and receive love. We also have a moral conscience to discern right from wrong which make us accountable to God. God’s ultimate goal for you on earth is not comfort but character. He wants you to grow up and become like Christ. This does not mean losing your personality. Christlikeness is all about transforming your character and not your personality. Every time you forget that character development is the reason you are here you frustrate yourself. So, life is quite challenging because God is always attem...

PROTECTING YOUR CHURCH’S FAMILY

Image
PROTECTING YOUR CHURCH’S FAMILY James 3:13-18 Devotional:- “Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace” (V. 18) Understanding that the second purpose of God for man is to belong to the church family, there is therefore a strong need for you to protect the unity of your church. Unity is the soul of fellowship. Nothing on earth is more valuable to God than the church because he paid the highest price for it and He wants to protect it. For you to be able to protect the unity of your church, you need to focus on what you have in common and not your differences (Rom 14:19). God wants unity and not uniformity. God made our differences and that should be respected. We must not let our differences divide us. To protect the unity of your church you must be realistic in your expectations from people. Don’t over expect. We need to give up the thought that the church should be perfect and admit that we all are not perfect people but people that wants to be perfec...

RAISING GODLY FELLOWSHIP

Image
RAISING GODLY FELLOWSHIP Ephesians 4:1-6 Devotional:- “Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (V. 3) It is only the Holy Spirit that can raise true and godly fellowship of believers but He uses the committed members of the body of Christ who make themselves available (Ephesians 4:3). It is by God’s power this is possible but we must choose to commit ourselves to the work of the kingdom wherever we find ourselves either in the school or in different community on earth. To raise a genuine and Godly fellowship we must share the truth of the word of God and not of human philosophy (Ephesians 4:15). To raise true Godly fellowship takes humility, self-importance, and stubborn pride easily destroys fellowship. Humility is the oil that makes relationship smooth (1 Pet 5:5). To develop humility, admit your weaknesses, be patience with others’ weaknesses, be open to correction and showing others the Bible love (Rom 12:16). Humility is not thinking less of yoursel...

PURPOSE OF HIS FAMILY

Image
PURPOSE OF HIS FAMILY Ephesians 2:14-22 Devotional:- “Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,” (V. 19) It is important you know that you are created for fellowship and formed for family. No one can fulfill the purpose of God alone. That is why God created a family for His children called the church. There will belong to one another forever (Rom 12:5). Your earthly family cannot continue to care for you but God has made the church a place for each of us to find love for ever. Please know that the church is not a building it is a group of people who form the body of Christ. The church is an organism and not an organization. One of the first sign of backsliding is when people start to miss fellowship. Whenever we become careless about fellowship every other thing begins to slide too. The church is so important that Jesus had to die for Her (Ephesians 5:25).The church is called the bride of C...

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING

Image
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 “Three things will last forever-faith, hope, and love-and the greatest of these is love”. (V. 13) In belonging to God and his family the most important thing is love. Because God is love and the most important lesson He wants us to learn is how to love. It is in loving that we look like Him. Loving makes you obey all the laws of God (Gal. 5:14). God wants us to love everyone but particularly members of His family (1 Pet 2:17). A major reason God wants us to specially love members of His family is because He wants His family to be known for love more than any other thing (John 13:35). God want us to be in regular close fellowship with other believers because you cannot develop the skill of love in isolation. To learn to love you must be around imperfect, frustrating and people of different characters.  Love should be your richest priority in life. Love should always be your motive and your motivation in all you do (1 Corinthians ...

FORMED FOR GOD’S FAMILY

Image
FORMED FOR GODS FAMILY Hebrews 2:5-18 Devotional:- “For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings” (V. 10) The second major purpose of your creation is that you are formed for Gods family (1 John 3:1) God wants a family and he wanted you to be a part of it. The entire bible is full of the story of God building a family that will love him, honor and reign with him forever (Ephesians 1:5) NLT. God is love, so he cherish relationship (1 John 4:7-8). The nature of God is relational and that is why He identifies himself in fatherly terms; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. When we turn to the Lord and give our lives to Jesus Christ, God becomes or Father we become His children, other believers become our brothers and sisters and the church becomes our spiritual family. Every human is created by God but not everyone is a member of His family. A man or a woman ca...

WHEN GOD SEEMS DISTANT

Image
WHEN GOD SEEMS DISTANT  Isaiah 8:11-18 Devotional:- “And I will wait on the LORD, Who hides His face from the house of Jacob; And I will hope in Him” (V.17) God is real no matter how anyone feels. Since we are made to worship God whether it is going well or not we must always give all the glory to Him. It is easy to worship God when things are going well, but situations are not always pleasant. That is why we must learn to always give God glory in all situations. The richest of worship is during pains or trails. We must learn to trust God, surrender and love God when we don’t feel his presence. In our scripture today the man of God said ‘’I will trust and place my trust in Him even when God is hidden‘’. True friendship is often tested by distance and inability to communicate. It takes close time and distant time to grow relationship. That is why to mature your relationship with God He will test you with period of seeming separation, feeling abandoned or forgotten. In such ti...

FRIENDSHIP WITH GOD

Image
FRIENDSHIP WITH GOD Romans 5:1-11 Devotional:- “For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life” (V. 10)  As a kingdom citizen please known that God wants to be your best friend. This is because intimacy is part of your act of worship. It is true that God is our maker and redeemer yet he wants to be our friend. Remember we were made to live continually in God’s presence but it is sin that makes us loose that (Gen 3, Roman 3:23)  In our scripture for today we saw that it was grace through the sacrifice of the cross that gives us access to friendship with God (2 Corinthians 5:18). Our friendship with God does not mean casual acquaintance but close and trusted relationships just like the best man in a wedding. In the palace the servant must keep their distance from the king but there are some people in circle of intimate and trusted friends with the king. They enjoy free an...

THE HEART OF WORSHIP

Image
THE HEART OF WORSHIP Romans 6:1-14 Devotional:- “And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God” (V. 13) Since worship is our first purpose on earth we need to know that worship will not be worship if we don’t surrender to God. So, surrendering is the heart of worship. In our world today, surrender sound negative. It could mean to give up or losing or admit your defeat. But it is giving ourselves to God not out of fear or necessity but in love (1 John 4:9-19). Three things often attempt to block our mind from total surrendering to God, fear, pride and confusion. As kingdom citizen, please know it that you must learn to trust God. A woman will not be able to surrender to her husband if she does not trust him and so also you to God. To truly surrender to God, you must admit your weaknesses and limitations. That is when you truly want to ask ...
